St. Aug Freshman Dies One Day After Spring Practice

One day after completing its spring scrimmage, St. Augustine’s University is mourning the loss of one of its student-athletes. Ronald Cunningham, a 19 year-old offensive lineman from Dinwiddie, VA died on Sunday morning after waking up sick.

At this point, no cause of death has been given.

“We are saddened by the passing of Ronald Cunningham. He was a member of the Saint Aug family, so everyone is grieving right now,” Williams said. “He was an outstanding student-athlete and also an outstanding person. He was fun to be around. Our heart bleeds for the family.”

Update: A source tells HBCU Gameday that Cunningham injured, and possibly tore his ACL in Saturday’s spring scrimmage. The source also says he had a seizure prior to being hospitalized on Sunday. Stay tuned on this one.
