It’s been two weeks since Cam Newton’s season came to a disappointing end in Super Bowl 50, but the NFL’s MVP was out and about this weekend. The Carolina Panthers quarterback spent some time at Tennessee State this weekend, checking out the football coach’s son’s youth game and watching the TSU men’s basketball game.
Newton’s older brother, Cecil, played football at TSU along with current Giants defensive back Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The two NFL stars ate lunch with Marcel Reed, son of TSU coach Rod Reed, and watched him play in a youth basketball game on Friday.
Saturday, Newton and Rodgers-Cromartie stopped on TSU’s campus to watch the basketball team beat Jacksonville State 61-46.
The story goes that after Newton was kicked of Florida’s football team, Reed tried to get him to come to TSU. He ended up going to Blinn Community College and ultimately Auburn, who he led to the 2010 BCS National Title.
