Over in the Tidewater area of Virginia, a young Howard alum named Stan Verrett was working as a sports reporter at WAVY-10. The game was a big deal as Hampton had just moved up to Division I status and was looking to make a name for itself. ODU would win the game, but it was just the start of what was to come for Hampton and Verrett, who would go on to become a prominent sports journalist and host. You can now catch him on Sportscenter.
