WSSU Drops In D2 Poll Despite Near Record-Breaking Performance

What do you get when you come within three points of breaking your school’s all-time points record? Well, if you are Winston-Salem State, you drop in the national rankings.

WSSU dropped one spot in the AFCA Division II poll, from 14 to 15, after beating Chowan 77-30 on Saturday night. It was up 35-0 late in the first quarter, and was a missed field goal away from tying its record for points all-time.

Apparently, however, that win over 1-4 Chowan wasn’t impressive enough to move WSSU up, or even keep it from dropping. WSSU might have to score 85 against 1-4 Johnson C. Smith to move back to no. 14 this weekend.
