Virginia State, WSSU Picked To Win CIAA Divisions

The last time the CIAA gathered for a football-related meeting, Virginia State and Winston-Salem State were the stars of the show. Though much has changed for both teams, that was still the case as the conference held its 2014 Media Day.
Both VSU (Northern Division) and WSSU (Southern) were predicted to finish on top again. In the south, Fayetteville State and Shaw were the team’s picked to most closely challenge WSSU while Elizabeth City State and Bowie State were picked to round out the top three.
VSU and WSSU were set to meet at the CIAA Championship Game last season before a fight at a pregame luncheon led to the cancellation of the game. The CIAA did not crown a champion last year for the first time since World War II.
