Unlike our last prospect Arnold Walker, Isidore Jackson entered the 2013 with plenty of fanfare. Jackson rushed for 1,069 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior in 2012, and was selected as preseason Co-Offensive Player of the Year before the season began.
Jackson didn’t exceed those numbers as a senior, or even match them, but he still had a solid year. He was at his best the last month of the regular season, rushing for 449 yards and five touchdowns in November to help Bethune-Cookman capture its third MEAC title in four years. He finished his career as the school’s record-holder with 3,277 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns while averaging over five yards per carry.
At 5’8, 205 pounds, Jackson is compact but solid. He doesn’t have the greatest 40 yard dash time, but he plays fast and showed potential as a pass catcher with a career-high 21 catches as a senior in a conservative Bethune-Cookman offense. No scouting reports currently have him projected as being selected in the draft, but it would be a surprise if he didn’t end up in a rookie mini-camp this spring.
His best bet to sticking with a team may be to play a role for a team similar to what Mike Tolbert does with the Carolina Panthers: Block, catch the football and move the chains as a short yardage back. He’ll likely had to add some bulk on to his frame to do that, though.
