A week ago, Rick Comegy had the Mississippi Valley State job in the bag. A few days later, the job was all wrapped up for Morehouse’s Rich Freeman after the school reportedly didn’t have the money to meet Comegy’s salary request.
Rick Comegy has been named the next head football coach of Mississippi Valley State.

Comegy is about as good a hire as Mississippi Valley State can hope for. The Clarion Ledger revealed today that the program has a recruiting budget of under $9,000. Even in the SWAC, it’s tough to win like that. Valley’s budget is more than five times less than fellow conference member and in-state rival Jackson State.
