After a brief scare, it looks like Brian Jenkins will be calling Daytona Beach, FL his home for a while. Just days after it was confirmed he was to interview for the head coaching job at Southern University, it is reported that the interview will not happen. Coincidently, a press conference to discuss the “future of Bethune-Cookman University football program” is scheduled for 11:30 AM on Thursday.
The Baton Rouge Advocate reports that Southern University athletic director William Broussard confirmed last night that he and Jenkins will not have a face-to-face interview as originally intended. Southern will now choose between current interiem head coach Dawson Odums and Nevada offensive tackles and tight end coach James Spady. Broussard said he still plans to present his choice for head coach to the Board of Commissioners on Friday.
“There was a request for more time, and we don’t have more time,” Broussard said. “This is a critical time. We’re about 50 or so days from signing day, and that date’s not going to move because Southern University is looking for a head coach. We don’t have the time to wait.”
