While some HBCUs are currently searching for football coaches and others might be soon, West Virginia State’s search is over. The university announced today that the Yellow Jackets have selected Jon Anderson as their new head football coach.

Anderson has spent the past 11 seasons at perennial NAIA power University of Sioux Falls. He served as a defensive coordinator for the past three years, and as special teams coordinator prior to that.

Anderson will try to bring his winning ways east with him as he takes over a West Virginia State team that finished just 2-9 last season, including a 77-0 blowout at the hands of FCS opponent NC A&T.

“Coach Anderson is a great fit for our football program at State,” said WVSU athletic director Sean Loyd. “Jon’s winning record speaks for itself, and we are confident he will bring that same level of success to our program.”
